In Settings, go to Advanced Settings and scroll to the bottom, then check the box "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed." IE9 on Windows 7 32 bits When I browse to web-pages with IE9, my desktop icons refresh in 50% of the cases. DO NOT sign in to Chrome at first launch. 3) Navigate to chrome://flags and set "Enable new profile management system" as 'Disabled'. 4) Exit Chrome, make sure it's stopped running, 5) Since I like to keep everything together I'm moving everything over to Microsoft - I've ditched the Google toolbar because it's not needed in Explorer and introduces more background processes.
