It happens to me whenever I shutdown or restart the computer using Shortcuts or the power button. When you exit the game, the screen resolution may change back, but the icons have already been re-arranged. This makes sense: a reboot causes the ‘iconcache' file to get recreated, so the fix described on this page, insofar as it works at all, doesn't work after a reboot. I have double and triple checked all desktop sorting options via right clicking the desktop as well as the method you mentioned. have a peek here
